Myriel Barmann The Story of My Life

The Story of My Life I grew up in a world which is completely different from the reality in which I live now. I have had the luck to learn values from a really diverse group of people. The first years of my life were spent in North Africa (the so-called “black continent”). My appreciation for life has its roots in my childhood and the way that the people around me appreciated “the little” things in life. Life isn’t about how much a person owns, or what status somebody obtains. Life is about “THE INSIDE”, the values and characteristics of an individual that makes each person unique.
My passion for travelling: I’d like to start this part with a quote of Lao Zu:

"A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step."

La tour Eiffel

My first journey is comparable with my first steps. I have been traveling since I was a young child, and even though I may not remember every detail from this time period I can still feel the vibes of the places in my heart. I have seen a lot of places in this world (Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, USA and, Africa), but I still feel the urge to explore more countries. If you have patience, a willingness to maintain an open mind, a desire to explore, and the ability to laugh at the absurd; you will gain a new perspective of the world. While traveling, you will grow through the people you meet during your trips and you will gain a different appreciation of life.

College of Charleston A Life Changing Opportunity

My last journey brought me to Charleston, South Carolina. I participated in an international exchange program which allowed me to study abroad in the USA for one year. My home university is in Worms, Germany (The University of Applied Sciences Worms). The university has a partnership with the College of Charleston, and this made it possible for me to expand my knowledge of another language, improve my people skills by living in another culture / environment, as well as establish great friendships with people from all over the world. By joining the “International Club of CofC” I got to know people from Spain, Brazil, France, Netherlands, China, Japan, Finland etc. I appreciate this experience in a very special way.
